Hmmmm… what can I say? I am a freak. No, don’t feel bad for me—I’m okay with it. In fact, I kind of love it. I am a freak about feeding my family real food. No, REAL food! As in, food that does not come out of a box. Food in it’s natural form; food that was created by God and not the “food” industry! Now you’re getting it… food that doesn’t require an ingredient list! Think meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and healthy fats like coconut oil (no…. “healthy fats” is not a typo. And no… Smart Balance is NOT a healthy fat).
Real food excites me. NO, really. For example, here are some of my most recent thrills in life: filling my new chest freezer with half a cow (as in one that roamed in a pasture and ate grass—not one raised in a CAFO*); beautiful vegetables growing in my newly constructed, raised garden beds (thank you to my awesome husband); and my children refuting government nutrition propaganda in the school cafeteria (yup, my 1st grader is becoming a bit of a food evangelist). See? I’m a freak.
Not convinced? How bout this… I’ve recently taken this whole “no chemicals or crap food” thing a step or two further. I stopped using shampoo… and deodorant (I know, huge gasp!). The jury is still out on these… apparently there is a transition period. I think my hair is going to adapt. My pits? I’m not convinced… Just in case, I keep my arms directly at my sides if I’m around other people. (Update on body care!)
Well, there you have it—the abridged version of why I am a freak. Should you choose to read this blog, you will (without a doubt) see more of it… and maybe even become one!
Oh, by the way… I’m hoping that you will find my freakishness intriguing. Dare I hope endearing? Am I getting too far ahead of myself? Anyway, my desire is to share with you what I’m learning through vast amounts of reading, life experiences, and trial and error. And… don’t be afraid… maybe inspire you to join ranks with the Real Food Freaks?!
