Here’s a tip: Pretty much all vegetables taste better when roasted. Especially turnips. Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of turnips. But cut them into sticks (fries) and roast those babies and I am all over it.
And roasting turnips (or any other vegetable) is ridiculously easy.
- Preheat oven to 420.
- Peel turnips and slice into “fries” (or chunks work too).
- Melt a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil, butter or ghee and drizzle over the turnips.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
- Roast for about 35-40 minutes (stirring halfway through) until turnips are nicely browned.

I’ve never tried turnips before, so I’ll have to give these a shot! I’m on GAPS and recently made the mistake of eating parsnips–which I soon realized are not GAPS legal
–but evidently turnips are fine for GAPS. Can’t wait to try these!
I recently made turnip fries, but they were sprinkled with chili powder. They’ve since become a regular side dish at the dinner table or a quick mid afternoon snack. Your recipe sounds even better.
I like chili powder… I’ll have to try that!
