FEATURED POSTS
To view past Freaky Friday’s and other fantastic posts from over several months, be sure to check out all the great posts here.
We have been posting A LOT about what Monsanto is up to these days. If you are wondering what you can do to hinder their progress Dawn @Small Footprint Family wrote a great post about all the companies that are opposing the Prop 37 campaign in California or are in some way tied to Monsanto and GMO’s. She also gives links of where you can donate to help stop Monsanto and their corporate bullies from taking over the debate on GMO labeling in CA. This affects all of us, not just Californians.
CONVERTING YOUR RECIPES TO SOAKED OR SOURDOUGH CAKES
Some of you may know that I have been converting recipes to sourdough versions. At some point I was going to post about how I did this. However, Melissa @Dyno-mom did a fantastic job of explaining her process here. If you eat grains and like to bake, this is a must-read article.
JUST EAT REAL FOOD, NOT 20% JUNK
AMEN! I love this article by Stan @Tender Grassfed Meat. He explains why the 80/20 rule is ok, but is often misused and misinterpreted that it is ok to eat junk 20% of the time. Better health will result when you are sticking to eating real food as often as you can and not making exceptions unless you have to, not just because you want to.
THE RULES:
**NEW RULE: Due to the fact that we are trying to promote real, whole foods on our blog carnival, we are no longer allowing posts that LINK DIRECTLY to another blog carnival. This is because we have noticed that various blog carnivals have different criteria for linking that may not line up with what we at Real Food Freaks consider real food. To keep the integrity of our mission, please do not link up your link ups.
**Secondly, (this is not a new rule but a reiteration of an old rule) — if you use wheat or grains of any type they must be soaked, sprouted or fermented directly in the instructions of how to make the recipe. We have been a little lax in pulling down posts that do not comply, but unfortunately we are getting more and more of these types of posts. We don’t want to pull any links down, so if you need an explanation see this post on grains.
1. Everyone who posts must place a link back to this blog on the post they are linking (not your home page or other page). Freaky Friday is about sharing what you have done as well as others. You will be removed if you don’t link back.
2. REAL FOOD only! No processed (this means refined sugars too), canned, margarine, hydrogenated vegetable oils, unfermented soy, etc. If using grains they must be PROPERLY prepared (soaked, sprouted, or fermented). Also, please be aware that we will not allow non-homeopathic, store or pharmaceutical type products being promoted here (especially related to skin care or health). Naturally derived ingredients only please.
3. Please, no product promos! Feel free to post giveaways here, but if you are selling a product or gain from the sale of any item please do not post it here.
4. Please help us promote the link up with a Retweet and / or a Facebook link to this page and any sites you visit! This benefits EVERYONE! Be sure to comment on others posts as well and let the bloggers know you were there.
5. Please leave a brief comment about your post. If this is your first time commenting on our blog or are posting a link, you will have to wait to be moderated before your link shows up.
If you don’t have a blog we still want to hear from you! Please leave your tips or recipes in the comments.
Thank you!

Wow! Thanks for featuring my article from last week. My post this week debunks the claim that grazing animals are bad for the planet. Properly managed grazing restores grassland and increases the water supply. And grassfed meat is good for humans too!
Why Grassfed Meat Is Good for the Planet
I’ve linked up a yummy mango berry frozen yogurt popsicle and an article explaining why butter is good for you (perfect for those still trying to convince their friends.)

This week I’m sharing a recipe for Lacto-fermented ketchup. It’s so much more flavorful and since it’s fermented, it provides probiotics necessary for digestive health. Dairy free people can use vegetable starter culture in place of the whey.

Hi and Happy Friday! I’m sharing a link to my new Google Search Portal for Real Food Websites only! It’s so exciting … only real food results!
I have loved Dyno-Mom’s instructions for converting to sourdough and I had so wished I could comment on Tender Grassfed Meat’s blog last week! I LOVED Stanley’s take on the 80/20 rule … Yes, the 20% is there because you need it, to give yourself a little less stress, knowing that while you’re shooting for 100% you will fall short. But if you shoot for 80% it’ll end up being something more like 60% … just human nature, I guess
. The link to Mark’s Daily Apple in the post is great too … the 80/20 rule is most useful while you’re learning, to encourage everyone to try … doesn’t mean you should stay there forever. Even 40/60 or 60/40 is better than SAD … it’s just a step on the way
.
I agree with you Kathy — totally meant for beginners. 80/20 also means different things to different people based on their dietary concerns. Grain free peeps might say 80/20 no grain/grain. As opposed to peeps who are discussing no junk/junk. There is a difference in how I have seen that rule interpreted. And I love your search engine for real food! How do I get access to that on my google? Can I find it there yet?
So glad you love it! It has to be hosted somewhere, so I’ve hosted it on my site at Real Food Search Engine Portal …
Ok, got it! Will have to go there to do a search. Will save the page for later!
