I’ve had cherries in the freezer since last summer when we went to pick them. I pull them out on occasion to make certain treats, but when I stored them originally I mistakenly packaged them in bags that were too large. So, when I thaw them for a recipe, I have to figure out what to do with the leftovers as they will lose flavor and moisture if I try to refreeze them. For the first time ever, I am dehydrating the leftover cherries.
1) Cut leftover cherries in half
2) Lay the cherries cut side up
3) Sprinkle a light amount of sea salt (very light)
4) Dehydrate in your oven at the lowest setting for 8 – 10 hours. Keep checking.
5) Place in freezer bags and refreeze if there is any moisture left.
If completely dried you can store in a glass mason jar at room temperature. Use these as toppings for salads, ice cream, in cookies, oatmeal, and much more!
